United Communities of Clark County
Partner Communities - Cities: Neillsville, Greenwood, Loyal, Owen, Thorp,
Colby, Abbotsford, Stanley
Villages: Curtiss, Withee and Dorchester

The partnering communities of Clark County collaborated to develop a joint contract for the removal of solid waste and recyclables. Previously, each community had an individual contract, with yearly price increases from vendors. In an effort to reduce costs individuals worked together for one year to finalize a contract with one vendor. They requested bids from three landfills and five waste haulers to make this decision. The results of these efforts allowed all 11 communities to negotiate a lower price with the contractor for three years with the option of a three year renewal through December 31, 2010.

City of West Allis

The City of West Allis and Whitnall-Summit Co.formed a partnership to redevelop and revitalize the former Allis-Chalmers manufacturing complex. In 1987, Allis-Chalmers closed its doors and the City of West Allis was greatly affected. The city lost an employer and experienced a decline of approximately 10,000 residents. With the partnership of the Whitnall-Summit Co. and City of West Allis, this 60 acre site has been converted into a first-class office complex. The project has restored a deteriorating industrial facility along with creating new jobs. Over the next few years, the city expects to create 3,350 new jobs. This is an excellent example of how the private and public sectors can work together to benefit not only the city they live in, but also surrounding communities. This partnership continues working together and have other projects in progress.
