2006 Municipal Winner

Village of Weston

For several years, the village of Weston has actively pursued cooperative service agreements with surrounding municipalities in north central Wisconsin.  In addition, the village has implemented several successful strategies to do more with fewer dollars during challenging budgetary times.  The village was selected to receive a 2006 Foth & Van Dyke Good Government Award for the following programs:

  • A partnership agreement with the city of Wausau for purchase of a new aerial fire truck, along with staffing and maintenance agreements.
  • Police services via the Everest Metro Police Department, with the city of Schofield and the town of Weston.
  • Joint street maintenance and related services with the town of Weston.

Independently, the village has put in place an innovative program to address cash flow at its aquatic center; a pavement and compost recovery/reuse center; and a policy that directs the village to reuse existing buildings where possible for municipal purposes, rather than constructing new.
